Broomhill Hub Survey Results

Campaign Update #6
5

You're reading the Broomhill Community Hub newsletter updating you about the campaign for community ownership of the bowling green on Randolph Road. This newsletter went out to over 546 local residents. If this newsletter was forwarded on, you can sign up here:

As promised this update is all about the Broomhill Community Hub survey. A big thank you to all participants of our community engagement event on 14/07. We were pleased with the turn out on the day. However, we know many supporters were unable to attend due to other commitments. We have recorded a video running supporters through the results.

The video embedded on this post [13 mins] summarises the emergent community vision for the site. At the community meeting we spent some time discussing the broad ideas that came out of the survey and categorise them into high community benefit.

Our aim is to eventually get a business plan around the most promising combination of activities. We are seeking social enterprise partners who might be interested in getting involved.

Call for expressions of interest in Steering Group membership

At this stage to move forward with the community’s vision for the site we will be formally incorporating into a community body. This means that we need volunteers! Do you have prior experience in being involved in a community body? Are you passionate about the Broomhill Hub concept? If so we need you to help us. For now we do not have a full terms of reference (these will be formalised in the coming weeks), but are seeking expressions of interest from people who have the drive to see this vision made a reality. Want to get involved? Hit reply to the newsletter, or click here.

Meeting with the Jordanhill Bowling Club Trustees

As mentioned in the last newsletter, we were invited to the clubhouse last night to discuss the JBC vision for the site. We have been informed that they will begin a community consultation of their plan at some point in the future, should we hear more details about their consultative process we will share them with you.

Community vision

Over the coming weeks we are going to be working on delivering a sketch of the community’s vision. More on this in due course.

Other interesting things going on…

  • As mentioned in previous newsletters Broomhill Community Council is seeking 4 new members. I would like to encourage as strongly as possible any women from the local area to step forward for the empty seats. I believe is very important to maintain a gender balance in our Community Council to ensure representativeness of our views. Similarly, younger members of the community are encouraged for the same reason. If you'd like to join BCC, please get in touch by replying to this email.

  • Are you affected by AirBnBs? Do you run a short term let? Glasgow city council are running a consultation on short term lets, it closes 25th of August.

  • An opportunity for 10-20 young, Glaswegian female climate activists to be mentored mentored as part of the Women4Climate international unique mentoring programme. Hurry applications close 20th of July at midnight! For more information see here.
