Hi there! This is the latest from the campaign for the community ownership of the bowling green on Randolph road. This newsletter went out to over 570 local residents. If this newsletter was forwarded on, you can sign up here:
We are pleased to share some significant progress regarding our ongoing efforts to achieve community ownership of our local bowling green. We greatly appreciate the support from the community, which has been instrumental in getting us to where we are today.
Our Aim
The Broomhill Community Hub group is working towards acquiring Jordanhill Bowling Club to bring it into community ownership.Â
Scottish Land Fund Stage 1 Funding Secured
We are happy to share that we have received a grant of nearly £20,000 from the Scottish Land Fund. This funding will support our preparations for the purchase of the Club, bringing us closer to our goal. Our fist actions:
1) Valuation & building conditions survey. This information will help us determine the necessary repairs and improvements needed to ensure a sustainable future for the site. It will also provide us with valuable insights to negotiate for the purchase of the property. The valuation survey has been carried out and will reflect the current value of the club as it currently exists.Â
2)Â Guidance from experts:Â We have retained SKS Scotland a group of consultants who specialise in assisting community organisations through this process. They will help us engage with stakeholders, analyse the market, and develop a practical business plan.Â
Next Step - Forming a Community Trust
We are forming a community-controlled organisation to represent our community's interests. This organisation will help us secure funding from the Scottish Land Fund to buy the site.Â
We welcome community members to join as members or serve on the board. The organisation will work with the trustees of the Jordanhill Bowling Club and the Scottish Land Fund to advocate for community ownership. The Trust will encourage positive discussions, find common ground, and work towards a mutually beneficial agreement.
Join the Steering Group
All residents are welcome to help shape the future of this project. The group meets monthly; it’s your platform to share ideas, insights, and expertise. Your active participation will help shape the final outcome and ensure that our community's voice is heard.
